South Bay Jams continues his hot run of form with a fourth new single for the taste making young label Universo Positivo. 'Ordinary Things' blends the mysterious producer's soulful synths with delicious deep house rhythms and comes with a remix from long-time techno innovator Orlando Voorn. South Bay Jams has already dropped three magical releases on this label. Each one is a subtle development of the last and fuses late-night funk with tender melodies, persuasive grooves and rich vocal samples to make for heartfelt sounds that move you in more ways than one. Joseph Salvador's Universo Positivo, meanwhile, only launched in 2024 but is already a vital outlet for fresh house music. Here it serves up 'Ordinary Things' which explores a darker emotional side. The drums bubble down low while moody female vocals tug at the heart. Synths swirl in the background while chunky kicks and wet claps bring the sort of detail that means this one really hits hard. South Bay Jams also serves up their own remix which reworks the track by stripping it back to the warm, rubbery kicks. The synths have more room to shine and add a late-night edge to the groove. A respected pillar of the global underground, Dutch remixer Orlando Voorn has already made his mark on this label with previous releases. He is famous for joining the dots between European and Detroit techno on cult labels such as Rush Hour, R&S and Housewax and traversing many different styles both solo and with legends like Derrick May, Blake Baxter and the late great Amp Fiddler. His take on 'Ordinary Things' is a brilliantly loose rhythm with daubs of neon synth, pinging kicks and lush harmonies all marbling the groove while the original vocal gets chopped up and scattered amongst the trippy melodies. 'Ordinary Things' is another standout single from house innovator South Bay Jams, and one that will get people desperate to know more about the artist behind the beats.
