MDA Grooves is on a roll right now. Across five tracks, the producer blends South American soul with classic house depths. The Universo Positivo label regular has already turned out a bunch of essential tunes here this year but once again brings the heat with this new EP. It's a signature blend of global grooves, Afro, Salsa, Cumbia and Disco primed and ready for the hottest months of the year. The percussion is live, organic and authentic, and his masterful use of samplers, synths and drum machines all lend the sounds a live, lived-in analogue texture that sets it apart. MDA Grooves is renowned for bringing fresh twists to Latin house. He draws on myriad reference points from Afro House to Salsa, Cumbia to Disco and next to solo hits like 'One Good Day' and 'Batucada Lounge' he has also worked with Latin greats like Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira and Ghanaian highlife star ‘Sloopy’ Mike Gyamfi. As well as using an array of samplers, synths and drum machines to cook up his musical sounds, he also layers in live instrumentation to help capture the true essence of Latin music. Hot on the heels of his last outing on this label, 'Sabrosa,' he now comes through with another authentic and rich fusion of sounds with this latest EP.
Opener '3, 2, 1, Sonido Latino' is nailed on to become a summer anthem thanks to the wonky accordion that runs through the drums. Latin percussion, sunny jazz keys and steamy vocalisations all make this a red hot heater for outdoor dancing. 'Vamonos America' brings a more propulsive house sound with textured acid, hooky disco riffs and Spanish vocals all setting it on fire. The dubby 'Adios Havana Linda' slows things down into a steamy and tropical house sound with a majestic flute lead and samba keys all layering in irresistible colour and soul. 'Vamonos Rikito' is another humid deep house sound with plenty of bold carnival flavours in the drums and percussion but also a late night soul to the pads. Last but not least is ‘Sonido Latino (It's Latin House)', which smooths things out and brings a seductive after-dark feel with loved-up Spanish vocals.
This is another seamless fusion of Latin, Afro and US house from the innovative MDA Grooves.
